Durham parents, regardless of your income – please pick up food twice a week at the school closest to you. 11-12:30pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays. You may pick up for neighbor kids as well and especially any food insecure families you know. It’s a way to keep cafeteria staff employed since DPS gets reimbursed by the USDA for every meal. they need to serve 10,000 meals a week to keep cafeteria workers employed.
This program feeds ALL kids in Durham ages 0-18 and they do not need to attend a public school. Just pull up and tell them how many kids you’re picking up food for. The cafeteria workers at Holt Elementary have a lot of food that will go to waste if more people don’t come out.
This is the frozen produce you get for just ONE KID.
10 milks, Sweet potato fries, 2 pizzas, 4 apple juices, 6 servings of fruit, Peas, Carrots, Corn, Sausage, 4 mini burritos, Apple sauce, Eggos, 2 pinto beans, 2 servings chicken nuggets, Cereal, and Pop tart.
Each site has a little variation but this is generally what you can expect to get. I picked up for 6 families in my neighborhood today. Please go out to a site near you! For more information please contact Angel Brown at [email protected].
